“I think that the most important thing a woman can have next to talent, of course is her hairdresser.”
Time flies, isn’t it? It has been a week since my last post. The past week has been quite a bumpy ride for me. Nevertheless, my week ended on a good note! I had a NEW HAIR MAKEOVER by COVO Hair Salon!!! ((:
To be honest, I’m quite a low maintenance kind of girl. I only go for a haircut and hair coloring session once a year. 😮 On top of that, I do not blow dry and style my hair on most days (Confession: I’m lazy) unless the occasion warrants for me to do so.
Thankfully, I managed to know of COVO through rave reviews from friends. So when I had the chance to have a hair makeover with COVO, I was literally jumping for joy!!
COVO (which actually means “a hiding place” in Italian) is located at 43 Keong Saik Road. It was rather easy to navigate my way to the hair salon. 10 mins walk from Chinatown mrt. Good walking distance to burn some calories. :p
Anyway, you can’t miss this beautiful shop front of COVO. Both the salon’s exterior and interior are designed to be minimalistic.
In fact, this private seating area caught my attention when I first stepped into the salon. This made me feel more at ease, because I really dislike how some kaypoh customers like to steal glances whenever I cut/color my hair. It gets kinda annoying. So I really appreciate that COVO designed such a seating concept for customers like me who wants exclusivity.
This was my hair condition before the hair transformation – dry, frizzy, uneven, with damaged ends. It was just plain ugly-looking. As I wrote this post, I have no idea how I managed to run my daily errands and work routines with this hideous hair of mine. It is not even close to the term ‘ombre’ hair. :/
Yuya San was my appointed stylist. He looks way much better in person than the photo. Haha. He was super attentive and polite! Constantly saying ‘Thank you’ and ‘Just a moment please’ to me every time before he walks away. I showed him the inspirational hair images which I had intended to achieve for the hair session, just think of Balayage hair.
This is how Balayage hair looks like – On a supermodel. Not on a commoner. *Note to self: Don’t be deceived*
This time round, I had asked for a Balayage hair effect, with hair trimmings instead of a short bob. I’ll cut my hair short the next time round! 😀 So here goes the hair makeover!
Pssst! Heavy images ahead! Read on at your own risk. (:
Yuya mentioned that to achieve a natural effect, it is advisable to opt for a 3 steps hair coloring stages.
1) Roots touch-up
2) Highlights (Involved Bleaching)
3) Base Color
I’ll show you guys the outcome at each of these 3 stages!
1st stage: Roots touch-up
2nd stage: Highlights (Involved Bleaching)
To achieve the sun-kissed highlights which would brighten up my entire frame, Yuya advised me that bleaching should be done. And that was my virgin try at hair bleaching in my life! Definitely not my last. 😀
Whoa! Highlights turned out to be very bright and yellowish against my base. Giving it a 3D feel yes? I was quite surprised about the turnout of the highlights. But this was not the finished look!
3rd stage: Base Color
After the base colouring was done, I got ushered into another cozy room for shampooing of my hair. At COVO, they use Carbonated Spring Water when getting your hair washed. The usage of it enables the removal of dirt from the pores of your head than what regular shampoo could not achieve. Talk about healthier scalp = healthy hair!
What’s the point of having a hair makeover without a good hair treatment? I opted for hair treatment right after my hair coloring session to maximise the shine and conditioning effect to my new mane. The hair treatment is done right after you get your hair washed! Just look at how cool the machine is, and the steam effect in the 3rd image (I was doing a selfie :p).
And you know how your hair feels likes after every hair coloring session? Fragile and ultra dry yes? But not with the hair treatment anymore. Upon the washing off of the treatment, I could immediately felt the softness and vibrancy in my hair. 😀
Yuya advocates in cutting/trimming hair when it is wet.
Final Hair Look!
How do you guys like my new hair? I am really amazed by Yuya’s spectacular skills when it comes to meeting his customers’ expectation as close as possible. If you do have a certain hair look which you wanna achieve, I have no reservation in recommending Yuya to you. (((:
More photos taken under broad daylight
I love how my new mane can reflect different color under different lightings. Absolutely adore how the subtle highlights bring out the vibrancy of the entire hair look. As close as it can get to Balayage hair effect for commoners like me. (:
If you like my hair makeover, and are convinced about the professionalism and the capabilities of COVO’s hairstylists, I would really encourage you guys to give COVO a shot! This is all the more worth it for ladies with longer hair length, because COVO does not charge additional fees.
