Being in a client-facing line, I’ve to constantly upkeep my image to look the part. (You know how people always say Fake it ’til you make it?) So that’s pretty much what I do at the very least, to look presentable for all meetings – by tying up my hair.
However, the unwanted flyaways around my crown area and the dirty brown color were annoying the hell out of me, and I had brassy tones towards the lower half of my hair. So I decided to do something to the tresses. I’ve even forgotten when was the last time my hair was on-point. I mean, looking at the previous state, I could hardly recall any moment.
Squeezed in some time for hair refresh over last weekend at Hair Inc. Made an appointment with them and it was my first trip to the Holland Village branch. Conveniently situated 5 minutes walk from Holland Village MRT, Hair Inc. is located just opposite Häagen-Dazs, above a bar named Three Crowns on the second level.
From the moment I enter the salon, I was warmly greeted by the receptionist (pretty lady but she was too shy to be in the pic). The salon exudes a minimalistic chic vibe, and there is not an air of pretentiousness about this place which I often felt when I walked in to other salons. So I’ve added a brownie point for that reason. (:
Although it was a Saturday, I literally did not have to wait because they were super on time with keeping to their appointment timings! Thank God for service staff and salons who respect their clients’ time!
I was blessed to have Kenneth, who is the director and also boss of Hair Inc. to attend to me! On first impression, he looked super hip and young given his funky hair color (I should have never judged, haha!). Kenneth took time to understand and listen to my past experiences with hair salons, stylists. After which, he was really patient in sharing his advice on hair coloring techniques and color that would suit my current lifestyle and work. And I felt much more at ease and comfortable after the chat.
Hair Inc. is known for being at the forefront of producing creative hair colors, but honestly, I’m not a fan of cray cray, loud and bright colors. Sorry guys to those who have done them before! But that’s just my personal preference. No hatred please.
Initially I was resistant to getting highlights, largely due to my past experiences with the process and outcome by other salons. I hated how those highlights turned out so chunky and thick. Thicker than La Bi Xiao Xin eyebrows.
So unnatural and super AA (attract attention) right.
To give my hair more depth and a greater dimension, Kenneth proposed for really natural-looking highlights on my hair, going after the soft and subtle 3D look and feel. He opted for Cherry red x Caramel (I think) for the highlights. And I trusted him on the color combi and technique despite my past negative experiences. Using classic foils, Kenneth handpicked the cluster of strands, and meticulously applied the color onto them – 20 strips at the minimum. Highlights application process took close to 20minutes.
Following the setting in of the highlights for another 20minutes, I had the privilege of having two hairstylists attend to me for the base color application. The darker classic brown shade that Kenneth has chosen for me was meant to bring warmth into my skin tone.
Can the hair statement piece go any higher? Haha!
Removal of hair foils and washing-off of the colorants took close to another 20minutes. My hair was blow-dried by Zamm (another stylist) prior to Kenneth snipping off those damaged and dry ends, and giving me a neater mane.
All in all, I spent close to 3 full hours at the salon, and there was not one moment where I felt uneasy. Guess you could say that I was pretty much trusting of Kenneth’s skills.
The final outcome was amazing! Kenneth is indeed a master shifu at what he does, and I absolutely adore my new mane! Highlights turned out so natural-looking that I believe the grow-out will be seamless!
Can I just tell you how much I loveeee my new hair? I felt more polished and there was this instant confidence boost upon seeing my refreshed look in the mirror. Zamm gave me C-curls toward the lower hair segment which totally shouted Kawaii-nei!
Thanks Kenneth for working magic on my tresses! I’ve since gotten tons of compliments on my new hair.
Looking to return to Hair Inc with some deep treatments to nourish my mane soon! ^^
